AWF Programs By County

Over half a million visitors have explored Lanark and Alabama Nature Center since its inception. 2022, 2023, and 2024 brought a renewed energy to school and community participation, reinforcing our mission to connect people with nature. 

Alabama Outdoor Classroom
Currently, 414 schools across 59 counties are enrolled in our AOC program.
To date, 85 schools have earned certification status, and our AOC team has provided 343 technical assists statewide. In the past three years, there has been a 3% increase in school enrollments, an 8% increase in certifications, and a 4.5% increase in technical assists.
 
Teacher Training Workshop
Teacher Training Workshops at Lanark and across the state have engaged 501 schools from 60 counties, reflecting a 5% increase over the past three years.
 
Alabama Nature Center
Since inception, our ANC has impacted 500,000+ individuals through our facilities and programs, including 368 schools from 51 Alabama counties, four out-of-state schools, and 23 schools benefiting from our Nature On Wheels Program that we take to schools necessary.
 
ANC’s youth and school group participation grew from 26,623 to 30,369—a 12% increase over the past three years.

    +  Homeschool participation has nearly tripled, surging 233%
 
Resource Stewardship
AWF’s Land Stewardship Assistance Program promotes wise use and responsible stewardship of our wildlife and related natural resources by providing on-the-ground wildlife and land management assistance to private landowners in Alabama.  Since program inception in 1999, AWF’s land stewardship biologists have provided professional recommendations to more than 1,000 landowners covering almost one million acres of land in Alabama.
